What's the worst injury you've had on the baseball field? I've torn my knee and done all kinds of things to it, but that was all during basketball (although it did carry over to baseball). The worst thing that happened to me in baseball was probably when I broke my thumb trying to barehand a line drive (it was an instant reaction, it's natural to stick your hand out).

Broken nose twice. First time was taking a throw from home to center, runner slid into me, went to put my hands out in front of me as I was falling, ball hit me right in the face. I had to have surgery, and play 3 weeks with a face mask on my helmet. First game without the facemask, I was hit in the face with a pitch.

Nothing serious just a few scrapes and deep cuts but I know 3 of my friends who have all had Tommy Johns. (They were 14,15 and 17 years old when they had it)

Broke my shoulder blade.
I was running from 3rd to home on a ground to short, and the SS gunned it home before I got there. Running into the catcher is illegal, so my only hope was to somehow avoid him. Me, not really thinking straight, decided to try and jump over him. This actually looked like it was going to work as I cleared his head. But the catcher decided to jump up, undercut my legs and send me hurdling downwards, upside down, in mid-air. I landed straight on my shoulder, neck area, and immediately felt pain in that area. It was only a broken shoulder blade, and it could have been a lot worse. Going head first into the ground like that, I could have easily broke my neck there, but I actually lucked out a little bit. Well, besides the fact that I was out. To this day though, I still think it would have been badass to score a run that way. It almost worked too, if the catcher hadnt decided to undercut me at the last second. |

never seriously hurt, but as a catcher one game, the Ump told me to get closer to the plate, I stepped forward just a bit, next pitch, the batter smacked the bat across elbow(funny bone) on my glove hand, missed the ball, and the ball hit me just inside my thigh/groin area just off my cup's protected area, so I was hurting in that game, funny thing is I was second up next inning and singled off the outfield fence(couldn't run because I was hurting so bad but had to bat to stay in the game)
I was on deck in a game where a kid broke his upper arm bone like Saunders from the Devil Rays a long time ago. I wasn't paying attention to the game and all of a sudden I see the ball fly in front of me and it scared me and evidentally his arm snapped before he let go of the ball, thats probably the worst injury I ever saw, especially the way his arm was bent. |

I had TJ surgery when I was 14. I used to be a damn good pitcher. I'm decent now, but not as good as I could have been.

none really during baseball, but one game I got hit in my ankle, back, and hip. Hurt like a *bad language*. One of the times I was on base for getting hit, they tried to pick me off and the ball hit me right in my side.

In the 3rd game of the year, I tore my ACL and my MCL in my right knee. Sucked because I'm a pitcher and that's the leg I use to push off the rubber with. Ended up throwing a one hitter that game so I didn't tell anyone and played the whole season with my knee messed up. Bad move because I couldn't play my senior year at all because I delayed the surgery so much.

ive never really had injuries (i have practice today, i prob jinxed myself) but my worst pain besides getting cleated in my arm and in the back of my head, and getting hit in the temple with a pickoff throw, is probably sore arms. when my arm hurts, it hurts so badly i feel nauseous. not like an injury but it sucks majorly

The worst injury I have had was while playing 3rd base. While Attempting to make a tag the runner slid head first, his feet curled up and spiked me in the face, one of the spike went through my lip knocking out 2 teeth. It took a root canal and 21 stitches to heal the injury.

I like the broken heart one
though I am amazed that most of the guyz have come across really serious injuries for the love of basketball. |

A friend of mine has broken his thumb when he was hitting the ball with the baseball bat. I do not know how he was able to do it - but he has done it. It looked awful.

Re: Worst Baseball Related Injury?
The worst possible injury(death) was in 1976 the Phillie's left fielder Todd Stamps ran into the bullpen hitting his forehead on a piece of metal piping shattering his eye socket. If ruptured his brain and he later died.
