[quote name='Burls 56' post='90785' date='Jul 22 2009, 12:11 AM']Gotta say you guys stole JP Howell away from KC.
Doing my fantasy team wonders. Yes, we seem to have a habit of making other teams look ridiculous in trades. Howell, Kazmir, Garza/Bartlett, Zobrist, Navarro, etc. And yeah, J. "Pimp". has been a monster this year. Thank god Troy Percival got hurt. |

I still trust Thornton. He has had a bit of trouble lately, but his stuff is still there at least. I have never trusted Dotel, I haven't trusted Linebrink since before he got hurt last year, Pena is meh, and now I can't trust Jenks anymore. We still have a good bullpen on paper, but it's scary how they are performing right now. |

I don't know why Jenks always has to give us a heart attack every game he pitches in...

One of his big problems is as I mentioned is his WHIP (which is the most important stat for a relief pitcher in my opinion) being pretty high for a "elite closer" at 1.30. He has 10 walks in 34 innings which isn't too bad, but he's allowing exactly 1 hit per inning right now, and part of his problem is being predictable early in counts. He gives up a lot of hard hit balls on first pitch and 1-0 fastballs which lead to hits because Bobby is very predictable in what he throws. He seems to always throw fastballs to get ahead, and curveballs and sliders to get outs later in the count. Hitters seem to have adjusted to that, so now Bobby needs to perhaps try and throw backwards sequencewise to counter adjust on occasion. |

Meh, he has 3.5 K/BB which is damn good, and the WHIP is inflated a bit by a .323 BABIP, so I think he should be fine.

Bob Wickman-esque right there. And Joe Borowski gave us the same exact feeling his first year with us. But yeah, last night was just a disaster for Jenks. |

I love Bobby, but IMO he's not an elite closer.

The K/BB is good, but that's because people are jumping on him early in the count and that takes away the chance for walks. The BABIP is also high because so many guys jump on him early in the count, and hit the first or second pitch fastball they see at 92 very hard. Jenks is basically good (with a lot of K's) if he gets deep into the count and doesn't walk the guy, but if the at bat is resolved early or his control isn't there, he has no shot right now. |

Ballgame, Thorton nearly gave me a heart attack as Jenks did the past two nights but we got the win. I missed the first 7.5 innings how did Torres look to you guys? His stats look ok but he did give up 2 homers.

He looked pretty good, just gave up a two run jack and a solo HR to Burrell. For his debut, he sure looked great. What a great game though, Alexei with the game tying 2 run triple, and then JD with the go ahead RBI single. Then in the 9th with runners on the corners, 2 outs, Longoria up to bat vs. Thornton, man that was awesome to see him fly out to center. |

Nice comeback. But, can we please have a 1-2-3 9th inning for once?

No better pitcher really to do this than Buehrle. What an outrageous performance.
All Sox fans owe Dewayne Wise 20 blowjobs. |

I vow on my life to never talk bad about the guy, I'm dead serious. He just gave us all (well not me) the liberty to see something like what Buehrle pitched live and he kept it alive. |

All you guys are pissed about missing, imagine how I and other Sox fans feel. We watch this team day in and day out and it most likely hurts us 20 times more. I mean wouldn't you feel way worse missing Matusz or Dice-K throwing a perfect game over missing Buehrle throwing one? |

Aside from the perfect game, i love Hawk. But, every time we win he acts like we won the World Series.

I stand by my past comments on Wise, just becuase he made one absolutely unbelieveable play to save a perfect game doesn't change the facts on the debate of he vs. Anderson. But at the same time, I am going to lay off him for the forseeable future because that play was simply impossible. What a great game today from Mark (I already gushed in the MLB main forum thread so I won't here). Lost in the shuffle today is the White Sox are back (tied, but back) in 1st place! Need a good weekend in Detroit. |

I agree we're not in the class of the Yankees or Red Sox or Angels right now. But we're a playoff contender, and if you're a playoff contender, you're a World Series contender. |
