Wayne Rooney appeals suspension for F-word

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was issued a two-game suspension for using the F-word, which he appealed earlier today. People believe this suspension was warranted as they felt the comment was vulgar and directed towards one of the referees on the field. Rooney is appealing the suspension saying the verdict is "clearly excessive" and did not deserve a two-match removal.

Wayne Rooney, who is one of the global faces of soccer, has received a lot criticism not for saying the word but how he said it. The incident took place when Rooney was heard swearing into a televison camera in celebration of his 3rd goal of the game. Many are against dropping the suspension simply in fear of setting a precedent for future cases surrounding the issue of vulgar language on the field.

I feel the call was fairly excessive given the situation. If someone yells in excitement from scoring a goal, yet alone a hat trick, they should not be held to the same scrutiny as someone who swears intentionally towards someone. Sports like basketall in college and the pros issue a technical foul if the referee hears any language they deem innappropriate. Sports like football and soccer are a little harder to keep control of but there should only be penalties for language if their was harm intended.
