Virus MP3's Allow Hackers Access to Automobiles
New research from the University of California and Washington says that virus infected MP3's along with wireless Bluetooth calls and CD's could all give hackers access to your car. In one experiment researches found a way to call a car over it's wireless bluetooth and send a malicious audio file through that, and in another they sent the code by linking the car to a bluetooth enabled device.
In theory, anyone with computer skills could take control of cars with electronic vehicle controls and these researchers are trying to point out how they can do that. Downloading MP3's also can put you and your car at risk of being hacked. A few files have been created (for testing purposes) with a virus attached that actually turns the song into a Trojan. When played, the song altered the cars firmware and allowed hackers complete control of the car. They could track a cars location, unlock the doors, and even disable the breaks. Luckily major automakers have become aware of this issue and are doing everything they can to ensure our safety. |
