There is buzz around Twinsland tonight that the club is working hard on a deal for Nationals All-Star closer Matt Capps.

The evening began with a text message from Rochester that catcher Wilson Ramos was pulled before tonight's game against Gwinnett Co.


According to a source with knowledge of the Nationals situation, the Twins, Yankees, White Sox and Braves are all in on the All-Star closer.

The move makes sense for the Twins. Brian Duensing is now in the starting rotation and they need to shore up the bullpen. It's likely that Capps would close while Jon Rauch moves back to a set up role. I mean it would be hard for me to see Capps become a set up guy after being named an All-Star as a closer.

Another source felt that it might be tough for a deal to be completed tonight and that Friday was more likely. But with other teams involved, things can change in a hurry.

Check back here for updates. Phone calls are out. There might be nothing tonight.. or a whole lot more tonight. The net has been cast, it just depends what comes back

I would like the move as long as Bill Smith doesn't give up a lot to get him, I still think the Twins number one problem is starting pitching

I also just read that Ramos was pulled from the lineup in AAA, if he is part of the trade to get Capps I'm going to break something......:banghead:

ugh! This is a terrible move for the twins..

How is it terrible when your closer hasn't been allowed to close but ONE time since July 8th and you get a guy with 23 saves in return? Rauch is not a closer, he's a set-up man. More Rauch means less Crainwreck.

And why does everyone have such a hard-on for Ramos? The guy played good for two weeks. Big ****ing deal. He was always going to be trade bait. What else were you going to do? Trade Mauer....lolz? Make Ramos spend 10 years in AAA until Joe moves positions of becomes a DH?

Not the point, I know he wasn't going to play for the twins, its just we could have gotten more for Ramos
