Oswalt to Phillies

Mark Berman of Houston's FOX 26 heard from sources Wednesday that the Astros have a deal in place with the Phillies for Roy Oswalt and are waiting on the right-hander to waive his no-trade clause. The two sides have agreed on the amount of money that will be exchanged and the players that will head to Houston. With those crucial steps covered, we now wait on Oswalt to decide if he wants to spend the next year-plus in Philadelphia. He has a 3.42 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 120 strikeouts in 129 innings this season for the fifth-place Astros.

Source: Deal is 3-for-1. Happ in. #Astros would pay "very significant" part of Oswalt's remaining salary, which is over 23M. #MLB #Phillies

World Champions

The offense is back, they are gonna take the division and get Utley back and go back to the Series and take it home for the 2nd time in 3 years

e Astros offered to pay $12 million of money remaining on Oswalt's contract through next year, according to a source. In return, the Astros would get back left-handed starter J.A. Happ and two prospects, according to sources.

While the Phillies prospects have not been identified, sources said the Astros have pressed hard for first baseman Jonathan Singleton, considered the team's best minor-league hitting prospect. Singleton is currently at Class A Lakewood in the South Atlantic League, where he was hitting .312 with 18 doubles and 12 home runs as of Thursday.

It is now up to Oswalt to decide whether to waive his no-trade clause
Happ, Singleton and one other prospect would be amazing. $12 million is a ridiculous price though but the prospects may be worth it.

World Champions? LOL, they aren't even the best team in their own division, dude lol. As it is, I'd say they are the 5th best in the NL but definitely playing better. I'm still not convinced they can beat the better teams in the league, though - Rockies and Diamondbacks? Get real, both teams are playing like trash. Oswalt certainly upgrades their staff, especially come playoff time but the Braves and Giants staffs are still better and that really can't be disputed.

And this isn't even to mention the fact they lose their best offensive prospect and their best young pitcher (who is better than Oswalt, when healthy).

This is why the Braves and Marlins will be at the top of the NL East by 2012, without a doubt. Though the Phillies have a GOOD farm system, most of their core is old and on horrible contracts. The Marlins have three top rate prospects in the bigs right now (Morrison, Stanton, Sanchez [AKA ROTY]) while the Phillies have Dominic Brown, lol.

It's clear they are sacrificing their future for the present with such a deal.

I was holding out hope that the Twins would get Oswalt..They lost out on Lee, Haren, and now Oswalt. Now they're going to be stuck with freaking Tom Gorzelanny, if anything.

well now the Astros need to get rid of Berkman and Lee.

Come playoff time that prospect would be nothing compared to Roy Legend
