Woman, 75, drives 2 miles on bridge the wrong way

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Police said a 75-year-old woman drove the wrong way on New York's Tappan Zee Bridge. State police in Tarrytown said the woman entered the highway from the Exit 9 off-ramp Sunday morning and drove north in the southbound lanes of the bridge. She drove about two miles before she was stopped.

She told police she knew she had been driving the wrong way but kept going because she thought there would be a place to make a U-turn.

She was given tickets for improperly entering a highway, driving in the wrong direction and reckless driving.

Eight people died on July 26 when Diane Schuler drove a van carrying her three nieces and her own two children the wrong way on the Taconic State Parkway. She crashed head-on into an SUV.

See thats why we need that 65 Age limit law for seniors.65 YOU CANT DRIVE! It means when you turn 65 you must retire your license. Just like Airline pilots must retire when they reach 60 years old. Police Officers must retire when theyre 55. I like that law to get old people off the roads.

Man, you saying that some muslims are terrorists, then all are? Same principle. The best driver I know is a women on my row, who is 71 years old. One does not mean all..

Then why are Airline Pilots forced to retire at 60 if they can still fly a plane? Why are Cops forced to retire at 55 if they can still get the bad guys?

Maybe once everyone reaches a decided age (let's say 65, to go with Steve), they have to re-take their driving test. If they pass, great. They have to re-take it every 5 years. If they fail, they're done.

Then why we have to have Age laws? Like you must be 21 to drink beer? But in Germany Kids drink beer. You must be 21 to own a gun then how come 18 year olds are using Guns in the Military? You must be over 18 years old to watch an R Rated movie in the Theater. I can go on about this...We have Age laws to protect society. Now if we had 65 You cant drive law it would make the Roads a lot safer and protect drivers who know what the hell theyre doing. I got a better idea. Back in to old days around 1920s-1950s If you speed drive reckless you go to jail. Now they just give you a ticket. Why not bring that back? If any senior drive reckless on the road theyre gonna spend 10 days in Jail with a 500 fine.

Steve, one incident doesn't represent all drivers over 65 years of age...

When you hit a certain age (let's say 65), I believe you should have to take a driving test. If you pass then you take another one in 5 years when you hit 70. If you pass, then you keep driving and retake another test in 3 years, etc., etc.

Then why should kids wait til theyre 21 to drink beer or to buy a gun? I say this if a kid wants to drink beer or own a gun they should be seen by a psychologist to see if hes mature enough to drink beer or to own a gun. He must get a writen permisson from a psychologist to say its ok to drink beer or to buy a gun.

Because alcohol being introduced to a brain and body that's still fully developing isn't the wisest thing to do.

Hell, if you wanna slap a law on the elderly and their driving then slap one on teenagers too, because a lot of them are stupid, or bad ****ing drivers.

We have the 21 age limit to drink beer because this is a country with many cars and if you're under 21, you probably don't understand the severity of things that could happen. You also feel invincible, so drunk driving isn't going to hurt you. How many kids in Germany drive? Why would you want to be like a German anyways? They're wack.

Guns is just a protection. Again, if you're under 21, your brain isn't fully developed and you probably don't understand the severity. I know plenty of 20 years old if, given the chance to own a gun, would pull it out in front of me and wave it around like they already do with their knives.

R rated movies are just censorship. You can still go if you're with your parents. Why don't they show an uncensored Pulp Fiction on ABC?

All of the laws you're comparing the 65 year old law to are bad comparisons. They keep undeveloped young people away from hazardous materials. If you're 65, you are most likely still intelligent. The odds of you turning into that woman driving the opposite way down the freeway are the same odds of a 21 year old not being ready to own a gun or drink mentally. Actually, they're probably lower.

Seriously. They're always changing lanes while forgetting to look at the other lanes, or they're always backing out their huge pickups into other people's cars. They're a menace to society and they should never be able to drive.

Yeah my Rental car looks like some fool hit me in the parking lot. My Insurance wouldnt cover car rentals so i ended up paying $250 extra for it. Now if Seniors took a bus to the shopping centers and to doctors that would solve most of the problems. PLUS IT ADDS JOBS!!! This is my idea

States should be forced to put this for seniors. Who pays for this? THEY DO! Every month on your social security check $125 a month is deducted for senior public transportation. Plus it adds Jobs! people can become bus drivers and you must call within 24 hours advance to get a ride. It takes you where you want to go and picks you up.
