Man Who Wrote "charge" Song Suing

In a surprising turn of events, Bobby Kent, the former musical director for the San Diego Chargers is suing the ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) for publishing the song he apparently created. da da da da da da.... Charge! is a popular tune heard throughout almost every sporting venue, and according to Kent it was his creation that he expects to be paid for. Although many would expect this story to be a man trying to get money out of a false claim, Kent actually copyrighted the song back in 1981 and was actually receiving yearly pay for its use by the Chargers. Kent is expecting either to be paid for backed royalties, or to receive a fee of $3,000 from each team to cover its use. The way I see it, either teams will pay the small amount, or simply find another tune and drop "charge" overall. Either way it's interesting to think of the origin of a classic tune like this, as many people just assume it is one of those things that has been around forever, rather than a song created specifically to cheer on the Chargers on third down.
