Yesterday, America lost an icon. Edward Moore Kennedy has definitely left his stamp on America.
Even with the scandals of his early career, Kennedy perservered. Even after two of his brothers had been assasinated, he carried the Kennedy torch threw a long Senate career, the fourth longest in the history of the Senate.(Robert Byrd, Strom Thurmond, and Daniel Inouye*). He was a leader in many causes, and he got things done. He even was able to enlist the help of political opposites such as Oren Hatch to advance his causes. I have often disagreed with Ted Kennedy. But I admire and respect him for what he stood for. How do you think he will be remembered? *Note-Inouye came to the Senate at the same time as Kennedy. Actually Ted has a couple months seniority on him. I am assuming that Inouye will live to pass Kennedy. Right now, Ted is actually behind only Byrd and Thurmond. |
