Globalization of media
American media is something that is seen everywhere in the world, from television, to movies, to music. These are things that people from every nation and every walk of life look to America for because our nation is seen as the pinnacle of entertainment and the center of the world for aspiring careers or lives. This could be both good and bad because through these mediums, foreigners may get a false sense of actual American culture. Movies, television, and music often glorify America and show aspects of life that are stereotypical and hard to achieve for the majority of people in America. In this sense, media in America has globalized the idea of the American dream and success for all, which is nowhere near the truth with the economy and job possibilities in the United States.
The media is having a strange effect on the globalization of culture because many foreign markets are given a false sense of reality in America. On the other hand, it is hard to support the globalization of American culture when we scarcely look to film, television, or music of the different nations throughout the world. It seems that this idea of globalization has become a sort of one-way street. A lot needs to be altered in order for the right perspectives of America to be spread and for the notion of globalization of our culture to even be worth the possible consequences. |

Re: Globalization of media
I totally agree that for some strange reason most of us as Americans only look at our country and not at how other peope live throughout the world. One of the big reasons I love to travel is to put myself in other parts of the world were I can absorb different cultures. Great post.

Re: Globalization of media
When I went to Belize it was amazing to see how some of the Americans treated the natives and how ignorant some people were. Traveling is the best way to learn about different places!

Re: Globalization of media
On my latest trip to Argentina I was asked where I was from and I said "I'm an American" and the response I got was "me too" which is true. I corrected myself and a said "I'm a North American". I guess for some strange reason I forgot that SOUTH America was America too. I quickly started answering "i am from the United States".
That just proves that in my head somehow I am taugh to say Im American and forget about a whole continent south of us. |
