Global Warming

Over the first 20 years of my life, I have already noticed an undeniable difference in weather patterns and the result of different aspects of each season. Hot summers, followed by short winters, and even rainy, cold summers are now followed by long, snow-filled winters. The patterns of weather certainly seem to be shifting but it is impossible to tell exactly the impact global warming has on this, and how long it will take to completely throw off the Earth’s natural environment.

For the next 50 to a couple hundred years, all we are likely to see is strange behavior in the weather, and the rise in temperatures throughout all of the seasons. The only place where global warming is directly causing harm is in the Arctic and other colder regions of the world. Not only plants, but animals are being forced to move environments, or just simply dying out because their natural habitat cannot support their lifestyle anymore. An example of this is the Polar Bear’s tragic fight for survival on the icy waters of the Arctic. It only then gets across to people that global warming is a relevant issue although we may not see the instant repercussions.

After watching Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth, I was really able to see how quickly the landscape of the world is being changed. Different species are resorting to different areas of their regions or even the world in order to find what they need to live. Polar Bears, as shown in the movie, are struggling in their environment with the ice-caps melting, and drift ice continually coming from the glaciers. This has caused limited transportation with the land they live on literally melting out from under them. The issue of global warming may not hurt the people living in this era, but we are slowly seeing the animal kingdom being forced to adapt to a new and devastating environment.
