Dwight Howard wins Defensive Player of the Year

The NBA announced Monday the Defensive Player of the Year would again be Orlando's Dwight Howard. Howard has won the award the past three seasons, becoming the first player in league history to take home the award three years in a row.

Possibly his best season defensively to date, Dwight held down the paint with 14.1 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and a career-high 1.3 steals a game. His size and athleticism allow him to use the vertical part of the game to push teams around in the post. Some question his drive and intensity because of all of the techinals he gets, but it shows how much he is putting himself into the game.

He is an athletic frea who plays above the rim and can run of the score in the paint, but Dwight is becoming one of the most dominant defenders in the history of the game. Being the only to win the award three consecutive seasons, Howard's competitive spirit will continue to focus on proving he can play both sides of the ball.
