Demonstration of Cars that test Blood Alcohol before letting you drive
![]() These cars of the future would automatically test a drivers blood alcohol level, and disabling the ignition based on the results of that test. These cars would completely eliminate drunk driving from occurring. This new idea of unobtrusively obtaining the BAC of the driver is backed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Alcohol Detection System would use either skin or breath sensors to obtain the drivers alcohol level. Correctly placed skin-sensors on possible areas such as door handles or the steering wheel could test that way, while breath sensors could test samples from the lungs before allowing a driver to fire up the ignition. Although all of this is true, we are not likely to see any of these technologies in cars for another 10 years. Which may be not as bad as we think, seeing as now a days people are very hesitant to allow the government to take more control over their automobiles. The implementation of these sensors would be a huge increase to public safety. There are around 10,000 fatalities a year in the U.S. due to drunk driving incidents. Decreasing these numbers would be a great feeling for us as a nation. I think these are a great idea, if it somehow does not slow you down every time you want to start up your car. |
