Is the Death Penalty right?
Here in Texas we have the Death Penalty and it is something I have always thought was fair if there was zero doubt of guilt. The thing is that I think I have always thought it was right because I have always lived in Texas and have never known anything different.
What are your thoughts on it? Is it right? |

Re: Is the Death Penalty right?
here in England, if a politician says they are going to bring in the death penalty, they are immediately hated.
i am not a fan of it. if we had it over here, i would always live in fear of it, incase you accidentally did something, or someone set you up. i couldn't live like that. i would rather just let people rot in prison if they do something bad, rather than killing them. |

Yeah too right there, fair point.
Could you deal mentally knowing you've killed a man for making a mistake? What if it was you in that position? I think it's wrong and shouldn't be brought back in the UK. |

Re: Is the Death Penalty right?
I'd like to see crueler death penalties.
Let's start hanging people again. There are some sick people in this world and if they are convicted of a disgusting crime or crimes they did, I'd rather see them get beheaded rather than sit in a prison cell being given food daily. |

Its easy to say lets put somebody in jail and let them rot, but that just isn't the way it really is. Most don't rot, but thrive in that environment so it is not punishment. Plus you have the family members of the murder victims that know this person is still out there living their life and with more rights then the victim's family has! They still live the same lifestyle in jail, still don't follow rules, still doing illegal things in jail (drugs etc), probably will end up killing or trying to kill somebody else in jail, could be anybody from a guard that works there (with wife and kids) or another inmate who may be there for something minor. Last but not least all the tax payers money it takes to keep these people in prison all those years, including keeping them healthy. Bottom line, its proven without a doubt the person is guilty then death penalty. And don't wait years to do! |

But it is a very hot topic no doubt about that, and if somebody is against it you have very little chance of changing their mind.

Probably because they have to go through all the legal procedures to put them to death, for example investigating whether it is necessary to kill them. Don't know much about the legal system in the USA, know a little bit more about the legal system in the UK though.

By the time they get to the death chair, the appeals would have gone to the highest state court in the US if not federal court.
I believe in the death penalty but in a different way. I believe I should be armed and when harm is threatening me, I give them the death penalty. I mean come on...They are dead guilty if they are in my house. |

Re: Is the Death Penalty right?
I have mixed feelings regarding the death penalty. On one hand, it is murder, which morally I find wrong as a person, not due to political or religious views. On the other hand it's far less punishment than a life would experience living lifetimes in prison, which is good.
I suppose in the end I would consider it wrong but only because it is part of the US Prison system...which is terrible and serves little purpose other than breeding more crime. |

Re: Is the Death Penalty right?
I have no problem with the death penalty. The person who would be given the death sentence(assuming they did the crime) was the one who made the huge mistake and they should be aware of their consequences. Now some people may argue the case that there mentally insane, to that I say bull*hit! They are aware of what they're doing and the fact that they know it's wrong.
Like mentioned, we're paying to keep these criminals alive it's a waste of our money(the people who have done nothing wrong). If they committed murder, and you can prove it, get it done right away and don't waste cell space on a space that'll be empty eventually. |
