The Mariners traded Cliff Lee and Mark Lowe to the Rangers for Justin Smoak and three others.

(For those of you who are confused.. the M's backed out of the Yankees deal)

oh, thank you lord lol. the last thing I ever wanted to see this year was the Yankees getting another superstar talent.

I'm kinda getting a Sabathia/Brewers vibe here. Their staking their entire season on this guy. They had to give up quite a bit for just a half season of starts. I like this trade.

well, Texas really wants to win the division since Anaheim has been the best for so long. this is really their best opportunity. they need to make the playoffs this year too considering their financial troubles.

Ok I thought he was going to the yankees, I'm like how much more will they do.

Rangers are having a great season, this is definitely a + for their part.

No, this is definitely a terrible deal for them. Cliff Lee will not resign with them and Cliff Lee isn't going to get them past the first round of the playoffs.

Bad trade for the Rangers, for the simple fact that they gave up to much for a rental player. But nonetheless this helps them get closer to winning the AL West. But don't count out the Angels just yet. They have a great manager, and a good players who have experience, so there still not out of it yet.

Also read on espn, it seems the Mariners just used the Yankees to get Smoak from the Rangers, if so the Rangers are dumb. Cause Lee is leaving after the season. Also I read that Lee and Sabathia to great friends had lunch, while there wives talked about where the Lee family should live.

I'm glad the Yankees didn't make this trade, they save there prospects, and when free agency comes around they are likely to get Lee anyway.

I was kinda hoping the M's would do the Yanks deal but wow, the Rangers sure gave up a lot for Lee. Hopefully the M's rebuilding process works, I miss watching the old M's.

I wish we could press rewind and watch guys like Edgar, Jay Jay, Cameron, Boone, Kaz, Javier, Dan Wilson, Randy Johnson and Mac. Thats when M's baseball was the best.

All in all, it was a terrible move for the Rangers. Getting Lee will win them the division, but big deal. They aren't doing any damage in the playoffs.

Beavan is going to be a very solid mid rotation guy, IMO. Smoak is going to be a stud 1B.

It's beyond dumb to trade 6 years of Justin Smoak for 3 months of Cliff Lee. They won't be able to re-sign Lee due to their bankruptcy, so it's really bad on their part.

Come on really? Not going to make any noise in the playoffs really? They are second in the AL in total hits, BA, 5th in HRs, 4th in stolen bases, 3rd in OBP, 4th in slugging. This is a complete offense, not too many teams(The Yankees are maybe th eonly one) who have even close to the complete offense the rangers have.

Before they added one of the best pitchers in the AL, the Rangers in one of the toughest pitching parks were 5th in ERA, 5th in strike outs, 3rd in BAA, and again this is pre Cliff Lee. They have one of the more complete all around teams in the league, and they added a top pitcher to their weakest part of their game. Not saying they are going to, but they surely can't be written off.

Lee/Feldman/Lewis/Wilson is hardly going to scare anyone in the playoffs. The Yankees have a better offense and a better rotation.

At best, the Rangers are going to make the ALCS. Anyway you slice it, 3 months of Cliff Lee isn't as valuable as 6 years of Justin Smoak.

There's a lot of speculation that the Yanks will get Lee in the offseason, so they save a good prospect. Would've been good for the M's either way since Lee wouldn't have came back but I think the Rangers overpaid.

Yeah I didn't think they should have given him up either.
