Capitals battle Rangers for double OT win
![]() It was a heavyweight bout last night that seemd to last forever between the Capitals and Rangers, ending in a double overtime thriller with the Caps winning 4-3 with a goal from Jason Chimera. The game entered the third period with Washington down 3-0, however they were able to storm back and score three times in the period to force an OT. The game was plagued with quick play that looked like both teams were trying to force the puck in the zone. Neither team was able to get anything going in the first overtime, and kept sending the puck in the zone. The Rangers looked completely depleted as their fans were silent after blowing the lead late in the game. This caused both teams to spend very little time in the neutral zone as the Caps, and especially the Rangers had a sense of urgency scrambling for the winning goal. The second overtime picked up pace a little bit, with each team getting more and more chances on offense, possibly due to fatigue on defense. The game looked like it was going to end on a Alex Ovechkin breakaway, although Lundqvist was able to come up with a game-saving glove hand save. The Rangers charged back with more hope and were able to get a few scoring chances on net, but were crushed by Chimera's tip-in goal to end the game halfway into the second OT This was an amazing display of playoff hockey, and showed just how hard these guys are willing to play. The importance of the game rose the level of intensity and talent of all the players and it was a fun battle to watch. Each team gave everything they had, the Caps just had a little more magic in them on Wednesday with the comeback and double-overtime winner. This game is a huge blow to the Rangers, who could have tied the series with a win, instead dropping to a 3-1 series lead for the Capitals. Coming back and winning from a three goal deficit in the third, the Captials gain even more momentum heading into their possible match-up next round. |
