I've seen mixed feelings on this trade: most like it, some hate it. My view on it is this: Yunel is talented, but he's an immature jackass who had to go. Lollipoping a throw to Glaus and having his wrist nearly broken must have been the last straw.
Getting Gonzalez isn't really going to hurt the Braves all that much despite his Francoeur-ian on-base percentage; he should hit lower in the order and be very good defensively. If you believe Ultimate Zone Rating/150, Gonzalez (4.0) isn't THAT much worse than Escobar (9.5). Note that 4.0 is third best in the American League, just 1.7 behind Elvis Andrus. Never thought I'd see that Escobar would be rated better than Elvis, even now, but I guess it happened. |

I have been a #1 Esco fan but what a deal, we def. won this trade, Esco almost got Glaus hurt with his lackadaisical play, Alex Gonzalez and his 17 Homers, 50 RBI and professional attitude are greatly welcome!

That being said, this was a move that simply had to be done. Yunel wore out his welcome in Atlanta. Besides, people seem to forget the Braves also got rid of Jo-Jo and got a couple of very good prospects in the deal. |
