I have noticed for college games that people tend to drink alcohol before the game in the tailgate. I've noticed they tend to sneak alcohol in too. I've never partaken in such activity, again, even when I was underage or of drinking age. It just seemed like a stupid thing to do. You don't need alcohol to enjoy sports. Has anyone else noticed the trend of getting drunk before sporting events? I've never gotten this. I don't know if people think the game is more interesting while they are drunk, or whether they get drunk to yell at the opponent or what, but it makes no sense. I attended every VT game I had the chance to attend sober, this includes games against archrival Miami and BC. Every game. Sober. It wasn't that bad. I love how there's criticism for those of us who are fortunate to attend a sporting event sober. I remember when I was preparing for the VT - BC game, it was rainy out and everyone was like "You need to tailgate in this shit" and I was all elitist and like "**** that I'm not tailgatin' in no rain, I'll sit right here indoors and mess around on the computer till' 2 hours before game time" and everyone was like "WTF you can't do that you need to tailgate and get drunk." I like how the NFL has instituted a fan policy rule. Too many times at the game you'll see the stereotypical drunk fatass who starts fights, yells obscenities with children nearby, and gets ejected for creating a disturbance. Not to mention Drunkie is usually the one running on the baseball field during a game for attention whore purposes, or because he's drunk and had a "high" So how do you feel about the increased trend of alcohol consumption during games? Why do you do it? Does it help you enjoy the game better? It's just an issue I've been very curious to know, considering I'm all sober and shit |

When I drank, I had my share when I went to games. I hope I didn't make too much of an ass of myself those times.
But looking at the way some people act at sporting events after having some beer, I can't blame teams for limiting how much a person can have at the game. |

In fact I'd limit beer to one cup per game IMO. Bleacher Creatures wouldn't be so bad with only one cup of alcohol lol |

I think alcohol should be allowed but the people who drink them should be sensible enough not to get overly drunk. I myself would probably never drink any at a game though

Alcohol should certainly be allowed, and I don't really see a whole lot of abuse by fans at games. Sporting events are certainly fun to watch sober, and if you happen to be a bit buzzed at the time, the experience still feels great, but I don't really see why it matters as long as you don't make a fool out of yourself. |

I think the Chargers have a similar cutoff time, the 3rd quarter or something. Limits like that make sense. And they should not sell to someone who already appears intoxicated. |

I've been to plenty of sports events and I've enjoyed them all without alcohol. There are just people out there who drink to get drunk and have what they call fun.

Of course at Yankee Stadium they'd never limit fans to only 1 beer, they'd lose way too much money.

No, we don't need drunk people at games...Drunk people in 100 degree heat in the Summer frustrated do not go together.

I voted no. Drinking only causes problems at the games and ruins the game for some fans. I, for one, cannot stand obnoxious, drunk assholes who just yell stupid shit the whole game.

Drunk fans are definitely annoying, but they can sure be entertaining. As long as they're not overly disruptive, I don't have a problem with it. If stadiums have alcohol-specific sections, they can be easily monitored. Once someone gets out of hand, give them the boot. Teams will never cut it out though. Such a big moneymaker.

Drinking ruins it. For example, if I'm at a game with my dad and my brother I don't want some dipshit college kid yelling and dropping f-bombs every other word. It makes things very uncomfortable.

Ive been to plenty of games sober, and had a fun time. This includes both football and baseball games. Ive also been to some games while drinking too. Still had a fun time. It doesn't make a difference to me. If people want to tailgate beforehand or drink during the game, that's there choice.

You have bad drunks and good drunks it has little to do with the event. Banning booze at games is silly.
You'll certainly never see it banned inside the park as this would mean hitting owners in the pocket. Fenway's cheapest beer is $7 a pop if memory serves. Just not gonna happen. |

I think the only time you should mention drinking and baseball game in the same sentence is if someone is watching a game at their house. If they wanna act crazy at their home, go ahead, but going out like that in public sets a bad example for people, and nothing good comes out of the situation. I would know as I have taken park district buses to Cubs games, and it's amazing how people act when they have some in them.

People can do what this wish until they become dangerous to other fans. I've been to games where guys have gotten drunk and nothing happens. I've also been to games where people have gotten drunk and became violent towards other fans. When that happens the security escorts you out of the area.
So as long as the situation is controlled it really doesn't bother me. But then again I don't care what other people do as long as it's not affecting me. |

[/quote] I usually tend to go ahead and "pre-game" before games i don't care about aka milwaukee brewer games, however if it's a game i care about like the packers (i usually drink to stay warm since the last game i went to the wind chill was -40). I will go on to say i've never been "in the bag" while attending a game, I have brought things into a game as well, it just kind of depends on who is playing TBH, but would i ever go drinking 10 hours before a yankees-red sox game? probably not, that is a game i'd like to remember |

I remember reading about an incident at the old Yankee Stadium from a season or two ago.
Some drunk guy in the upper deck fell over and rolled down through a bunch of fans, breaking one man's neck. The family of the injured man were from out of town and had never been to a Yankees Game before. Needless to say, this ruined their experience. The cops in that section came and took the drunk away without knowing what had happened to the injured man. Granted, it's an isolated incident, but it's one that I remember and I'm sure the injured man won't ever forget. I don't drink now, but when I did, I would limit myself because I usually ended up driving my friends home. |

Re: Alcohol at Games
I do, and so do a lot of people. Let me put a certain example into your heads that Me, my brother, my older cousins and some of their friends plan to do for the 2014 Super Bowl in the Meadowlands.
We're all huge Giants fans so we plan on going to the SB Game in a few years. The Price of a ticket is so damn expensive however, even for some of the worst seats in the stadium, that it's not worth it. So our plan is to rent one of those Tailgating Trailers that have built-in space for Kegs to tap right out of the side, grills, and an HD TV. We'll simply all split the cost for the Trailer, food and beverages. We won't pay for a ticket, because I've been to Giants games b4 where we are Tailgating prior to the game and when it's time to go in, we don't want to go in anymore. So while everyone is spending thousands on tickets, we'll be spending the same amount that 1 idiot spends on a ticket, and split the cost for a big tailgating event in the parking lot. Everyone enjoys a lot of alcohol at events, and in situations like that people would prefer to drink than to even be in the stadium, which is what we plan to do.
