At the middle of the season, General Manager Mike Zach took control of the Cubs. He had a view that his team was surprisingly weak and would not go far into the playoffs, as the team barely had a wild-card esque record but was in first place. So, what the GM did was trade older, higher paid players away for a couple good young players, especially from the Mets. The GM conceded the season in order to be a powerhouse down the road. He also made a trade of most value, acquiring power man Cody Ross for negligible Sean Marshall, and almost trading Fukudome for Pie at the deadline. Expect Mr. Zach to be active in the off season.
